Vintage Australian Military Pure Wool Felt Slouch Hat with 4 Air Holes, 7-Fold Puggaree, Rising Sun Badge and Red Star-Shaped 6 7/8 Label. This classic drab olive military Slouch Hat with its 7- fold Puggaree was originally introduced during WW II in the Middle East as a distinguishing Mark of active service. This vintage slouch hat recently came to us from a small WWII collection in a Pinehurst Estate Sale.
Note: According to one of eBay's members, this hat is post WWII and dates to the early 1960's.
One of the fasteners or buttons on the hat has AUST CARR impressed into the back. This fastener was manufactured by the Carr Fastener Co. Aust. in Southern Australia. The Carr Fastener Co. started producing these fasteners around 1928 and ended their production in the early 1960's.
There is a small, barely noticeable repair to the original leather chin strap, otherwise the overall condition is outstanding. The hat, 7-fold Puggaree, sun rise badge, brim, air holes and adjustable interior leather band look very good to outstanding.
This military hat which does have legitimate age but no manufacturer's label or date was difficult for us to date accurately. We do know that this version of the Australian Military Hat with its 7-fold Puggaree was originally used in WWII in the Middle East but this hat dates to the early 1960's. This slouch hat or KFF (Khaki Fur Felt) hat is 14 1/2" long, 11" wide and 5" high.
